What could be better than receiving a kidney that you’ve waited years to get? How about receiving a kidney and a high school equivalency certificate within a few months of each other? This is exactly what happened to Danny Chew, one of our recent HiSET clients.
Danny joined Goodwill Industries of Acadiana’s Opelousas adult education class in January 2019, just one month after receiving his kidney transplant. He came into the program with a drive and serious effort, yet he always had time to joke with and support others in the class. While enrolled in the program, Danny had to balance his studies with weekly trips to New Orleans for medical checkups. His dedication and drive helped him to quickly earn his certificate, and now he has a determination to help others.
Having to have years of dialysis for his own kidney issues, Danny dreams of becoming a Dialysis Tech so he can care for others the way his techs cared for him. He was even offered the opportunity to train at the clinic where he was once a patient.
Danny’s inspirational story is a reminder of the value of our services. Danny received his HiSET through our program and is now able to give back to others. These services are only possible because of our generous donors and shoppers who continue to support our mission of building healthy communities!
